Why I built this

I watched small shops get handed the leftovers.

I spent four years in telecom — three at AT&T, then a year at Verizon setting up call flow infrastructure for small businesses. Routing, after-hours rules, overflow, what happens when nobody picks up.

I saw a lot of those setups. The same thing broke every time: the system could route a call, but it couldn't understand one. If nobody answered, it went to voicemail. That was the whole safety net.

The enterprise accounts had rooms full of people to catch what the system couldn't. A three-truck plumbing shop had a voicemail box and a prayer.

Questions contractors actually ask.

Will my customers know it's an AI?

Most won't, and we don't recommend hiding it. Your agent opens with something like "Thanks for calling Miller Plumbing, this is Sam." It sounds natural, it doesn't do phone trees, and it never puts anyone on hold. What matters to your caller is that somebody picked up and got them on the schedule — which beats voicemail every single time.

What happens on a real emergency?

It recognizes it, gets the address and callback number, tells the caller help is coming, then calls your cell and texts you the details. You define what counts as an emergency for your shop during setup — gas smell, no heat below a certain temperature, sewage, sparking panels, whatever your rules are. It won't sit on it until morning.

Do I keep my current number?

Yes. You keep your number and forward calls to Booply — all the time, after hours, or only when you don't pick up. Your customers see no change. You also get a dedicated Booply line ($20/mo local, $25 toll-free) that the agent uses for texting.

How long until it's answering my phone?

About one to two weeks. That's not us being slow — it's us building your agent by hand and waiting on carrier approval so we can legally text your customers. What if it gets something wrong?

You tell us and we fix it — usually same day. Every call is recorded and transcribed in your dashboard, so you can hear exactly what happened rather than guess. You're not filing a ticket into a queue; you're talking to the person who built your agent.

What happens if I go over 800 minutes?

Additional minutes are $0.25 each, billed on your next invoice — never a surprise mid-month charge. Your dashboard shows minutes accruing in real time. For most one-to-three truck shops, 800 minutes is roughly 400 calls a month, which is more than enough.
